Archives For han solo

Because of my faithful reading of Entertainment Weekly in a vain attempt to stay current, I came across an incredible movie project, Star Wars Uncut.  Star Wars Uncut is where the directors of this project sliced the entire movie of Star Wars into 15 second clips.  The fans got to choose one of the clips and add their unique take on that scene.  Then the directors picked the best of each entry and put them together for a totally amazing version of a cinematic classic!

After watching this clip, I was interested in what the actual movie was like, so I grabbed a bowl of popcorn and settled in to watch the entire movie.  (Keep your judgements to yourself)  As a huge Star Wars fan, I could not help but be impressed with these true fans’ dedication to the movie and to their scene.  While the original is a masterpiece, this uncut version is just as much one in its own right.

In a similar way, there is a director who is putting together the most amazing story this world has ever known.  It is the story of creation, fall, and redemption.  It is a story that could have been told by the director alone, and it would have been put together brilliantly.  But this director wasn’t just interested in a perfect story, he was interested in a participated story.

For whatever reason, God has chosen us, with all our flaws and idiosyncrasies, to be a players in the story.  If it were me and I wanted people to participate I would take all the leads and give them to professionals, and then have all the riff raff be the trees and scenery.  But thankfully, God is not like me.  He despises the professionals and lifts up the riff raff.  He invites everyone, from every culture, every language, every context to participate fully, to take a 15 second slot and tell the story with everything we have.

You see, the call has gone out to make a film of our own.  Each of us have our little 15 second slot to tell our part of the story with all the unique skills, context, and passion we have.  And when this meta-story is all put together, it will be a masterpiece for sure!

What makes Star Wars Uncut so amazing is that there are no stars competing for center stage.  The story is the most important thing, not the players.  How great would it be if we could get our heads around that.  Did you already miss it? It is never the players who are important, it is only the story.

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!”22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.                            1 Corinthians 12:21-27

May we be slow to throw away the people who we think are unable or unworthy to be a part of this epic story.  Rather let us be people who equip others and encourage everyone we know to tell the story of the redeeming love and transformational power of Jesus Christ.  We are all included in the body of Christ, and each one of us is a part.  And each one of us has 15 seconds to contribute, so lets get to work!  Action!
